Puesto came highly recommended from multiple reputable sources so it was on the list. It took some planning, but we finally made time to try it ourselves. Quick take – what took us so long? Street tacos with generous portions of flavorful meats. Super yummy, filling, and original.
Viva Taco Tuesday
Puesto is located in downtown La Jolla where parking is notoriously challenging. We usually bike to La Jolla, but that doesn’t work as well at night. We got lucky and found a spot only a block away. We arrived about 8pm, and as we rounded the corner we knew the rumor of abundant deliciousness must be true. We faced a long line out the door and a 45 min. wait. Insider tip: Puesto does accept reservations, and as of now, even on the ever popular Taco Tuesday. Starving and facing the grim 45 min. wait we noticed an outdoor table open, we guessed due to the fact it was an uncharacteristically chilly night for us thin blooded San Diegans. We asked and sure enough we were the only ones dressed warmly enough or adventurous enough to go for the outdoor table. That said, we made the right call, and due to their super powerful heat lamps we were comfortable for the entirety of our meal. The decor is upscale bistro with a relaxed casual vibe even on the patio.
Perfectly cooked and absolutely incredible
Se Habla Fresh! Proudly declares the menu. Puesto serves all-natural meat, sustainable seafood, and local organic greens. Their commitment to quality shows in their food. The wait staff was extremely professional and attentive and we put in our orders for some tacos. Our first reaction when our tacos arrived was surprised delight at how much meat was served and how beautiful they looked. Each one was uniquely colored with its own blend of spices. The Chicken al Pastor had a delightful crispy finish. The Chicken Verde dripped with spicy goodness. The Carnitas melted in your mouth and the Filet Mignon, with spicy pistachio jalapeño, was perfectly cooked and absolutely incredible.
We will be back
We felt completely satisfied with the recommended three taco serving and quality at this price point was…. Wow. It would even be well worth it at the usual non-Taco-Tuesday price. It was one of those meals that you can savor the memories of and smile all night long. We will be back.
